Consult Our Leaders Before Taking Decisions On Matters Affecting Us, Fulani Tell Govts

According to Leadership report, the Fulani community in Nigeria has called on federal and state governments to engage their leaders before implementing policies affecting their livelihoods. The appeal was made during a press conference by the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN), emphasizing the need for inclusive decision-making. 

MACBAN’s National President, Alhaji Baba Othman Ngelzarma, stated that past policies, such as grazing bans and anti-open grazing laws, were enacted without proper consultation, leading to economic hardship and conflicts. He urged authorities to involve Fulani leaders in discussions on security, land use, and cattle management to ensure sustainable solutions. 

“We are major stakeholders in Nigeria’s agricultural sector, yet decisions impacting our lives are made without our input,” Ngelzarma said. “Consulting us will reduce tensions and foster peaceful coexistence.”
