According to a source, the insurgents burnt down some section of the local government lodge and vehicles belonging to a bread factory.

“They stormed the town on Wednesday night on foot, they were engaged by vigilante members and other special forces compelling the terrorists take to their heels as I am talking to you now, they burnt down vigilante camp, two vehicles of bread factory and some section of the lodge.”

When contacted, Captain Shehu Muhammad, Assistant Director Public Relations Unit, Operation Lafiya Dole Sector 2, Damaturu, confirmed the development, but said troops successfully foiled the attack.

Terrorists had on Sunday invaded Mafa village and killed unspecified number of villagers, which the residents claimed to be about 130 villagers.

HOWEVER, former Senate Leader, Mohammed Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has appealed to the military under the Theatre Command, Northeast ‘Operation Hadin Kai’ and other security agencies to intensify more efforts geared towards clearing remnants of Boko Haram members still hibernating around Sambisa forests, Mandara mountains and other hideouts in border communities within Gwoza and the Republic of Cameroon.

The lawmaker said pockets of attacks recently perpetrated by the terrorists are still posing serious economic setbacks to resilient farmers newly resettled in liberated communities of Ngoshe, Kirawa, Warabe, Wala, Pulka and even Gwoza town, the Council headquarters. In a statement released Thursday, Ndume said the terrorists have resorted to the looting of their unmatured crops without confrontation.

The former Chairman Senate Committee on Army while expressing his gratitude to Governor Babagana Zulum for his contributions to the development and rebuilding of about 10 Gwoza communities that were completely destroyed, also applauded efforts and sacrifices made by the military in restoring civil authority in the area.

MEANWHILE, Nigerian security agencies have disclosed that troops on the frontline across the country have neutralised 1,166 terrorists and arrested 1,096 suspects, while also rescuing 721 kidnapped hostages in the month of August.
