Delta police deny report of gunmen attack, killing of officer

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe has denied reports that a policeman was killed by gunmen in Ughelli North Local Government Area.

This is despite widely circulated claims of an attack on officers at a checkpoint and the picture of a dead policeman.

The Police image maker said there was no attack in a text message sent to our Correspondent in Warri.

His text message read, “Nothing like that pls”.

But in reports circulating online, a policeman was reportedly shot dead and his AK47 rifle carted away by gunmen.

The unconfirmed report, containing the picture of a policeman lying lifeless, claimed the incident happened at a checkpoint on Wednesday along the Ogor-Evwreni axis of the East-West road at about 6pm.

It said two other Policemen who were with the deceased at the time of the incident escaped into the swamp.

They were allegedly rescued by a team from the Ughelli Area Command.

The report said the remains of the deceased Policeman, Jude Ukpaka who is with the Dragon 19 team attached to the Ughelli Area Command has been deposited in the mortuary.
