He went further stating that while Nigerians have consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to democracy, their leaders have focused solely on acquiring power for self-interest rather than genuine governance.

In a recent discussion, Ibrahim examined Nigeria’s democratic progress since 1999, identifying a concerning trend in the nation’s leadership.

He observed that each successive government has fallen short of public expectations, with governance deteriorating over time.

Ibrahim attributed this decline to several factors, including the ill health of Obasanjo’s successor, the late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, which impaired his governance.

In Jibrin Ibrahim’s words in a video (1:46), he said, “I think one way of looking at it is to realize that Nigerians have always been deeply committed to democracy Obasanjo, whom we criticized so heavily, is now standing upright as the most competent and committed government we have had.

The person who succeeded him, unfortunately, didn’t have the health to do much. Then Jonathan came, and he turned out to be much worse.”
