Irene Ugbo, the Police PRO of the Cross River State Police Command, said the students were rescued a few hours ago at a creek in Calabar

She denied that any ransom was paid but that police and the Department of State Security, DSS, worked seriously to ensure they were rescued.

“I’m happy to confirm that the three students of the University of Calabar who were kidnapped over two weeks ago have now been rescued. It took the combined efforts of the DSS and ourselves to achieve the feat,” she stated.

Gunmen who stormed the varsity campus demanded N14 million before releasing the students.
