The Edo State Police Command has identified the officer killed by suspected political thugs on Thursday in Benin City as Inspector Onuh Akoh.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The Command’s spokesman, SP Chidi Nwabuzor who disclosed the identity of the late police officer in a statement made available to newsmen in Benin City, said he was a personnel of MOPOL 45 Abuja.
Nwabuzor said the officer was attached to Senator Monday Okpebholo.
In the statement, Nwabuzor said the Commissioner of Police in the State, Funsho Adegboye, vowed to arrest, name, shame, and bring to book the perpetrators of the dastardly act.
According to him, it is the principal thing to rightly inform the law-abiding citizens of Edo State and the general public of the shooting incident that occurred along Airport Road, Benin City, on the 18th of July 2024 at about 1300hrs by hoodlums suspected to be political thugs.
“It was said that on the aforementioned date and time, Rt. Philip Shuaibu and Sen. Monday Okpebholo arrived at Benin Airport from the Federal Capital Territory Abuja, where their supporters rallied around to welcome them.
“Suddenly, some hoodlums suspected to be political thugs emerged from nowhere with guns and other dangerous weapons and started shooting sporadically. In the process, bullets hit a Police Inspector, Insp Onuh Akoh, a personnel of No. 45 Police Mobile Force Abuja attached to Senator Monday Okpebholo.
“The Police Inspector gave up the ghost on the way to the hospital for treatment and his body was deposited at the military hospital in Benin City.
“The Commissioner of Police Edo State, CP Funsho Adegboye, mni on behalf of the Inspector-General Of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM and the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force commiserate with the wife, children, family and friends of Inspector Onuh Akoh for the loss of our gallant fallen hero and pray that God will grant him eternal rest.
“The CP wants to use this sad moment to appeal to the general public to remain calm, continue to be law-abiding citizens, and go about their lawful businesses so that the Police and other Sister Security agencies are in firm control of the security situations in the state.
“He, therefore, warns criminal and unscrupulous elements in the state to desist from any act capable of breaking down the law and order or undermining the inviolable sanctity of the peace in the state.
“The CP reiterates the command’s inexhaustible commitments in protecting the lives and property of the law-abiding citizens of Edo State and the general public”, he said.
He, however, vowed to arrest, name, shame, and bring to book the perpetrators of the dastardly act.
