This was contained in a statement signed by the Sector Commander of FRSC in Akwa Ibom, Matthew Olonisaye.

In the statement made available to journalists in Uyo on Tuesday, Olonisaye urged drivers not to indulge in the practice of driving against traffic along major routes in the state.

He advised all road users to plan their journey on time and avoid getting into a rush.

He also implored all drivers to be conscious of the slippery condition of the road due to rain.

“Against this backdrop, the command is calling on all motorists and other road users to apply caution while using the roads, especially during this season when the roads are witnessing a high volume of human and vehicular movement,” he stated.

According to him: “A total of 643 operatives, including special marshals, have been strategically deployed to man major routes in the state for traffic control, while 11 patrol vehicles and two ambulances are deployed for effective coverage of critical areas, with adequate arrangements made for tow trucks to clear any obstruction during the period.”

Olonisaye also added that the Command would be embarking on a special operation to intensify enforcement on critical offences, alongside engagement in robust public education and enlightenment during this period.
