The situation became even more tense after a recent stakeholders’ meeting in the North-East, which was supposed to be about supporting Tinubu’s re-election. That meeting did not end well. Instead of showing unity, it reportedly turned chaotic. Members believed to be loyal to Vice President Kashim Shettima became angry when they felt their preferred man was being sidelined. It got so bad that chairs were allegedly thrown at Mustapha Salihu, the APC Vice Chairman for the North-East. His only offence, according to those reports, was that he didn’t clearly say Shettima would return as Tinubu’s running mate.
