Former Arsenal star, Ray Parlour, has kicked against the club’s move to sign Kai Havertz from Chelsea this summer,
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! He is not convinced the Germany international is the right player for the Gunners to sign this summer, urging them to go for Ivan Toney of Brentford instead.
Havertz has become a top target for Mikel Arteta’s side in the just opened transfer window and the Blues are willing to let him go after an underwhelming three seasons at Stamford Bridge.
Havertz, 24, joined the west London side from Bayer Leverkusen in 2020 for an initial £62m, which could reach £71m, but has not really lived up to that price tag.
The German has scored 32 goals in 139 appearances across all competitions, with just 19 of those goals coming in the Premier League over three campaigns.
Arsenal are currently in negotiations with Chelsea, with the Blues wanting around £70m for Havertz but the Gunners hoping to pay much less.
“You need an out and out goal-scorer, if you’re Arsenal,” Parlour told talkSPORT. “They need someone to put the ball in the net.
‘For me, I don’t think that’s the right signing. For me, it’s a shame, I’d have gone for Ivan Toney but he’s obviously got that ban and whether they want to take a chance with that…but he would have been the obvious choice for me.”
