Andre Onana has revealed why he refused to wear the Manchester United’s number one shirt recently vacated by David de Gea.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!De Gea left the Premier League giants this summer making the number one shirt available for whoever would replace him.
However, upon arriving at Old Trafford from Inter Milan last week, Onana opted for the unusual No.24 shirt.
Onana became the third-most expensive goalkeeper in the world after completing a £47million switch to Old Trafford.
And while many expected him to quickly pick up the iconic No.1 shirt, the Cameroonian opted to continue with the No.24, which he has worn previously at Ajax and Inter.
Onana has now explained that his shirt choice references his date of birth – 2/4, the second of April.
“I just like that number and it’s my birthday, my date of birth.
“So for me it’s great and I like this shirt. With this number we have done a lot and I hope this will continue,” he told MUTV.
