In an interview with TVC News, Dr. Banwo emphasized the importance of unified communication, particularly in light of the seemingly conflicting signals between President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Dr. Banwo cautioned against rash decisions, stating, “You engage in debate when we have something like this, not withdraw and try to force the government to stop.” He highlighted reports suggesting that Vice President Shettima had advocated for a reconsideration of the bill, while President Tinubu remained firm in his stance.

“Even right now, it looks like the President and Shettima are not on the same page because Shettima is being quoted as asking the President to also withdraw this bill, while they reconsider. Thank God, the President is saying no,” Dr. Banwo remarked.

The analyst stressed the need for unity within the administration, emphasizing that effective communication could bridge the gap between the government and the people. “Everybody needs to be on the same page,” he said, urging the government’s communication team to intensify their efforts in educating the public about the bill.

“This is where the communication people for the government need to go full bore. They need to leave other petty issues they’re engaging in and focus over the next week or two on educating people better,” Dr. Banwo added.

He pointed out that the debates surrounding the Tax Reform Bill present a valuable opportunity for constructive discourse rather than abrupt policy reversals.
