Portuguese footballer Diogo Jota who died in a tragic car crash in Spain on July 3 2025 has left behind his wife Rute Cardoso and their three young children. His sudden death came just 11 days after their wedding and has left the football world in deep shock and sadness.
Rute Cardoso is the longtime partner of Diogo Jota. They met in high school back in 2013 in Portugal and stayed together ever since. She has always been a quiet and supportive presence in Jota’s life choosing to stay away from the spotlight while helping him build a successful football career. She supported him during his early days in Portugal his move to Wolverhampton in England and later during his rise at Liverpool Football Club.

The couple officially got married on June 22 2025 in an intimate wedding ceremony held in their hometown of Porto. Diogo Jota shared beautiful pictures from their wedding day on social media describing it as a day they would never forget. It was his last post before the fatal accident that claimed his life and that of his younger brother André Filipe da Silva.
Diogo and Rute had three children together. Their first son, Dinis was born in February 2021. Their second, son Duarte was born in March 2023. Their third child a daughter was born in November 2024.
