Speaking for the first time since his impeachment, Obasa dismissed the allegations levelled against him as baseless and exaggerated.

Addressing the media on Saturday, Obasa questioned the credibility of accusations regarding financial misconduct during his tenure.

Mocking claims of inflated project costs, he said, “Is it possible to construct an ordinary gate with N16 billion? It is not the wall of Jericho or the wall that demarcated the United States of America and Mexico.”

The former Speaker also denied allegations that the House purchased one Hilux bus for N1 billion each, allegedly acquiring 40 vehicles for a total of N40 billion.

He said, “How can they say we bought one Hilux bus for N1 billion and that we bought 40 pieces for N40 billion? I am not disturbed or perturbed, and I am not afraid. I will debunk all the allegations levelled against me by the House.”

Obasa, who has served as a lawmaker for over 20 years and is the longest-serving member of the House, maintained his innocence.

He emphasized his commitment to representing his constituents, who have reelected him six times.

He maintained that he has not done anything wrong, and that anyone who wants to remove him should do so through the proper process.

He said that he was removed as the Speaker just because he was out of the country.

The former Speaker also alleged interference from security forces during the impeachment process.

According to him, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police led officers to invade the State Assembly on the day of his removal.

He further claimed that over 200 policemen surrounded his private residence in Agege, blocking the gate and restricting his family’s movement.
