Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel has claimed that goalkeeper David de Gea should have done better to prevent Manchester City from finding the back of the net during their FA Cup final on Saturday.

Man United lost 2-1 in the FA Cup final against Man City at Wembley.

De Gea’s performance has been consistently scrutinised this season.

Ilkay Gundogan’s brace ensured Man City won the FA Cup ahead of Man United.

But Schmeichel said De Dea should have done better to stop Gundongan’s first goal.

He told BBC Sport, as quoted by The Peoples Person: “He should have done better.

“I was very surprised that it went in [City’s second goal]. He is not following the game.

“Manchester United need a new goalkeeper and world-class striker; I’m sick of saying it.”
