A significant change to Nigeria’s political landscape has been attained as opposition leaders in the country met in Abuja to formally unveil the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as political platform for national coalition against ruling party.

The meeting, which was held at the Yar’Dua Centre in Abuja on Wednesday, attracted politicians from major political parties, including the Labour Party (LP), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The opposition coalition adopted the ADC as the viable platform to slug it out with the President Bola Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

Former senate president David Mark, who has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has officially been announced as national chairman of ADC, with former interior minister, Rauf Aregbesola, appointed as national secretary.

Attendees at the event include Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the LP in 2023, Rauf Aregbesola, former minister of interior, Aminu Tambuwal, former governor of Sokoto, former Senate President David Mark, Akeem Baba-Ahmed, Rotimi Amaechi, former minister of transportation and Solomon Dalung, ex-minister of sports, and Odigie Oyegun.
