Mr. Ikechukwu Ani, the PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations, confirmed the new posting in a statement.

The statement revealed that Commissioner of Police Peter Opara has been assigned to the FCT, succeeding CP Benneth Igwe.
CP Igwe has been promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police and will now oversee Zone 7, Abuja.
Opara, who was previously the Commissioner of Police at the Force Secretary’s Office, has an extensive background in law enforcement.
Prior to his new role, he served as the Deputy Commissioner of Administration and Finance at the Imo State Command.
Additionally, Opara has experience as the Personal Assistant to former PSC Chairman, ex-IG Mike Okiro.
Ani highlighted Opara’s qualifications, noting that he is a law graduate from the University of Calabar.
His career includes serving as a Liaison Officer at the PSC, reflecting his deep familiarity with the organization’s operations.
In addition to the appointment in the FCT, the PSC also approved the appointment of four substantive Commissioners of Police for other states.
