The committee also suggested reinstating and paying the previously discontinued wage award up to July 28, 2024. This committee was established to ensure the implementation of the National Minimum Wage Act of 2024.
A Memorandum of Understanding, following a meeting on Friday, September 20, revealed that the federal government will begin the minimum wage payments from July 29. The National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission (NSIWC) is responsible for preparing salary templates for various consolidated salary structures, ensuring the payments are implemented from that date.
Didi Walson-Jack, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation and chairperson of the committee, noted that current economic conditions were considered before making the decision. The committee also recommended that the previously discontinued wage award continue until July 28, 2024.
The 16-member committee, inaugurated in early September, agreed to adjust civil servants’ salaries following discussions on the National Minimum Wage Act 2024.
