Former APGA guber candidate, Odoh mourns Ogbonnaya Onu

An All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Chieftain in Ebonyi State, Professor Bernard Odoh, has expressed sadness over the death of the former Governor of old Abia State and Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu.

Odoh, in a statement, described the death of the former Minister as a great loss to Uburu Community, Ebonyi State and Nigeria at large.

The statement reads in part, “Nigeria lost one of its finest, refined and savvy politicians who impacted politics and governance positively since the Second Republic. Born in 1951 in Amenu, Uburu, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

”Christopher Ogbonnaya Onu, in the over three decades he played an active part in Nigerian politics hitherto demonstrated consistency in opposition politics till he played crucial roles in galvanizing the merger of the now ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in 2014.

“Taking off with a sterling career in the classroom as a teacher par excellence and a seasoned technocrat to becoming the first Executive Governor of Abia State, Onu proves true the fact that honesty, hard work, consistency and courage eventually pays.

“In our dear Ebonyi State, he also impacted in raising leaders across board and inspiring a younger generation of men and women to take an active part in politics and he was always devoid of rancour and acrimony at all material times.

“In him, our nation will also miss a man who always gave peace a chance at all times; choosing to always pick his fights with every tact, deftness and diplomacy. This earned him the reputable title of Ugo- signifying peace!

“No doubt his quest for equity, equality, justice and fairness attracted national and global attention when he emotionally spoke during his address at the APC Presidential primary election querying; Where is the justice? in his dire quest for the zoning of the Party’s Presidential ticket to the South East geopolitical zone which is yet to take its fair bite on Nigeria’s Presidency,” he stated
