DAILY POST reports that the accident occurred at the ‘C’ Police Division, Oja-Oba roundabout, while the van was conveying inmates undergoing trial from the Oke-Kura custodial centre to court.

Confusion broke out in the area as a result of the incident, as commercial okada riders mobilized their colleagues to the area and caused temporary unrest.

Unconfirmed reports claimed four persons were crushed to death by the van.

The van was damaged by the mob and if not for the quick intervention of security agents, the situation would have turned bloody.

A combined security team of men of the Police and civil defense corps later moved the van away from the scene of the accident.

Efforts to reach the leaders of the commercial okada riders union in the state proved abortive.

Spokesman of the state Police Command, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, confirmed the development in a phone chat with DAILY POST in Ilorin on Thursday.

But he could not confirm the number of casualties as at the time of filing this report.

The Police spokesman said normalcy has been restored in the area.

He added that the incident is being investigated.
