The situation reached a boiling point when the Amaewhule-led Assembly declared the seats of Chief of Staff to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Edison Ehie, and three other pro-Fubara lawmakers vacant.

The reason? Their absence from legislative sessions for 152 days without proper notification. “Ehie failed to inform the House about his new position, which left us no choice but to declare his seat vacant,” Amaewhule explained during a heated plenary session.

The declaration caused ripples throughout the political landscape, with Amaewhule doubling down on the absences of Oko-Jumbo and the others. “They have been absent for more than 150 days without permission.

This isn’t just negligence; it’s a blatant disregard for the House,” Amaewhule added, citing the 1999 Constitution that mandates lawmakers to notify the Assembly of their status. In response to this, the Assembly held three decisive votes to confirm the vacant seats.
