There were reports that a female soldier, identified as Lance Corporal Nkiru, had reportedly shot dead one Lieutenant Bitrus Zira at a checkpoint in Yola following the curfew imposed by the Adamawa State Governor, Ahamdu Finitiri.

Bitrus Zira had reportedly gone to the checkpoint to mediate in a dispute with motorists and soldiers on duty when the Lance corporal, holding a corked gun, shot him accidentally, leading to his death.

After attempts by reporters for a comment on the matter, General Mohammed Gambo said tersely to one enquiry that nothing like the reported incident happened, saying in another comment that the incident was an accidental discharge.

In another response, Commander Gambo asked those who need information to contact the Army PRO at the defence headquarters in Abuja.

DAILY POST reports that Lance Corporal Nkiru was said to have gunned down Captain Bitrus Zira at a checkpoint by the Fire Service Roundabout in Jimeta, Yola, after a heated argument with residents.
