According to a report by The Nation Newspaper, in a significant crackdown on illegal arms trafficking, Osun State Police Command arrested three suspected gunrunners on June 26, 2025, who were using a vehicle branded with the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) logo to evade detection.
The operation, conducted along the Osogbo-Iwo road, has raised alarm over the misuse of student union branding for criminal activities, prompting calls for tighter security measures.
The suspects, apprehended during a routine patrol, were found with a cache of firearms, including two AK-47 rifles, a pump-action shotgun, and 150 rounds of ammunition concealed in the vehicle’s modified compartments.
