Deborah Agbalam, a correspondent for Channels Television, was harassed while covering the demonstration at the Federal Secretariat, a central location for the protest.

Witnesses reported that the thugs, positioned across from the Federal Secretariat, used intimidation tactics to disperse the demonstrators.

Prior to Agbalam’s arrival, two protesters had already been assaulted, with police officers on the scene but failing to intervene.

According to Channels Television, Agbalam was surrounded and threatened by the thugs who were intent on halting the protest.

The aggressive actions against the journalists and protesters underscore significant concerns about security and the protection of protester rights in the region.

Rivers State Police Commissioner, Olatunji Disu, has expressed deep concern over the escalation of violence.

He has pledged a comprehensive investigation to ensure accountability and prevent similar incidents in the future.

Commissioner Disu had previously praised the protesters for their peaceful approach and had even offered refreshments in support of their cause.
