She was earlier admitted to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba, where she was taken to by her soldier boyfriend.

The lady, who was said to be hustling after rounding off her one-year mandatory national youth service sometime in 2021, was abandoned at about 6:30a.m by the roadside at Okuokoko/Ughelli expressway on September 13, 2024.

A witness, Mr Joshua Omorere, said his attention was sought to revive the unconscious lady by good Samaritans who stumbled upon the lady where she was dumped.

According to him, they later gathered that the lady was dumped by a Master Warrant Officer attached to Season 3 Brigade Asaba.

He narrated: “On September 13, 2024, along Okuokoko Ughelli Expressway, a young lady was abandoned along the road. She was helplessly lying down on the road so people gathered thinking of ways to be of help to her.

“I was with my friend whose shop was close to the location. Somebody came to my friend’s shop to ask for help in carrying the lady from the road.

“We took the lady off the road and we were trying to see how we could give her water and malt to regain her strength.

“We didn’t know who abandoned her all we knew was that a vehicle dumped her there and left.

“As we were trying to help her, I suggested we call the police which we did. While the police were on their way, a young man in a military uniform came and was asking what the matter was.

“He suggested we take her to the hospital but we said “no” that the police should get here first.

“He called my friend aside and told him that he dropped the girl and that the girl was okay when he did. So, we told him to wait for the police. The police came and took both of them to the station.

“On getting there, the man told the police that he is a military man and that the girl was his girlfriend. That was how he took the girl in his vehicle and drove off.

“Before then, we took the girl’s SIM card from her phone and put it inside another phone and called her brothers.”

Younger brother of the deceased lady, Uwem Augustine Edet, who spoke to our correspondent on Tuesday, said they arrived Warri on September 14 after Mr Omorere informed them about their sister’s health challenge.

He said at the Emergency Ward of FMC Asaba, the doctor in charge requested they buy some drugs to address some pus oozing out of the private part of their sister.

Edet said they also met the boyfriend in his car at the premises of the hospital but told them that he only assisted her to the centre for treatment.

He said on sighting the soldier, his sister, who was on the sick bed, began to probe her army boyfriend as to why he took her to the Warri area only to dump her on the roadside when she became invalid.

Edet said her sister, thereafter, refused to explain to them what actually transpired between her and the soldier before the incident occurred.

He said efforts made to incident the case at the A Division of the Nigeria Police in Asaba was frustrated as officers on duty were lukewarm in investigating the matter.

According to him, due to financial constraints, they decided to convey their sister back to Calabar where she was surviving on oxygen and eventually died on Tuesday after vomiting blood.

With their parents still alive, the death of Emem, who’s the second born and first daughter, was said to have dealt a heavy blow on the family.

“As of yesterday, she was breathing through oxygen and she passed away early this morning.

“The only news we heard at Asaba was that she had sugar. But we didn’t see that in the test report.

“My sister kept saying that the man that took her to the hospital was responsible for what happened to her.

“She, however, refused to tell us what exactly the man did to her. The only thing the army told us was that he was the one that helped my sister.

“He didn’t tell us he dropped my sister by the roadside at Warri. The only thing he told us was that he helped her that she was sick.

“We had to leave Asaba because of the expenses. We had to borrow money to transport ourselves to Calabar. We paid close to N60,000 to Calabar.

“The situation became worse on our way to Calabar. Her breathing changed and she wasn’t breathing like a normal human being again.

“She was restless throughout that Saturday because she couldn’t breathe. She was complaining that something was walking in her stomach and her stomach became swollen. She is 35 years old and she is the second born.

“I just called the army officer some minutes ago. and he said he is coming back but I haven’t told him that she has died. He still thinks we are in Asaba.

“We didn’t tell him we had left Asaba. I am strongly suspecting that man.

“She finished service in 2021. She wasn’t in Warri, she was in Asaba. She was staying and hustling in Asaba.

“She had mentioned that she was squatting with this army man because she hadn’t gotten a permanent place to stay. But the man is claiming that he just met my sister and that he hadn’t known her.

“I don’t understand how he went to Warri and had to leave her by the roadside.

“I am suspecting that the only reason he went back to my sister was because of his SIM card that was on my sister’s phone.

“My sister cannot just die like that. I need to know why she died. She has suffered, even the school she went to, she suffered; only for her to end it this way. She vomited blood before she gave up the ghost.

“My sister complained to my elder brother that she has been feeling some pus coming out from her private part for some time. She was using pampers. The army man was framing everything on diabetes and infection.

“She even said she doesn’t know they went to Warri. She even asked the man, why he took her to Warri but the man couldn’t explain.

“The man blocked my number after he left us at the hospital,” Edet lamented.

Responding to enquiries by our correspondent, Major AO Jewota, who’s in charge of Season 3 Brigade, Asaba, confirmed the incident but said Master Warrant Officer said he only assisted the lady to the hospital.

He, however, said the officer was “on pass right now and he is coming back next week. I will get back to you.” …..For More READ THE FULL ARTICLE HERE ▶▶
