The rally was intended to show support for Senator Ndume following his removal as Chief Whip at the Red Chamber.

The arrest came despite the Presidency’s assertion that Nigerians have the constitutional right to peaceful protest, and the Inspector-General of Police’s promise to provide security cover for such protests.

The planned rally was aborted due to security concerns and appeals from the Borno State Government.

It should be recalled that Senator Ndume was removed from his position after an interview where he criticized the current administration’s handling of hunger and insecurity.

His aide, Junaid Jubrin Maiva, announced the cancellation of the rally, citing potential conflicts with a nationwide protest and concerns over disruptions.

Sources revealed that the detained persons were arrested by a team of armed policemen and whisked away to Maiduguri for interrogation.

The Police Authority has secured a Court Order to detain the masterminds of the Solidarity pending further action.

The wife of the Legislative aide, Mrs. Amina Kachallah, has confirmed her husband’s arrest and appealed for his release.

She said that her husband is their breadwinner and that they have been suffering since his arrest.

She said, “I’m appealing to the police to release my husband, he is our breadwinner and we have been suffering since the day he was arrested.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Kenneth Daso, has confirmed the incident, stating that the suspects are in custody and under investigation.

Daso said, “Yes, the Borno State Police Command has arrested three persons based on intelligence report in connection to the planned Solidarity Rally for Senator Ndume in Biu town.”
