Atta who is 86 years old, shared his thoughts on the ongoing political challenges in the country.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Atta criticized the practice of sharing power based on ethnic or regional rotations.
He argued that this approach encourages a system of “turn-by-turn sharing” that does not lead to progress.
For him, this model only divides the country further, preventing it from becoming productive and unified.
He underlined the need for Nigeria to move beyond this idea and focus on building a more efficient government.
Instead of continuing to rotate the presidency, Atta called for a federal system where every region can contribute to national development.
He argued that what Nigeria truly needs is true federalism, where states have the autonomy to manage their own affairs while the central government handles only national matters like currency, citizenship, and foreign affairs.
According to Atta, the focus should be on creating a productive Nigeria, not one that continues to share power without addressing the underlying issues.
“Every now and then I listen to the nonsense they talk about rotational presidency, which means turn-by-turn sharing and collegiate so that everybody will participate in the sharing, but must we continue to share Nigeria? We will continue to share Nigeria until it disappears if we continue with that line of debate,” he said.
