Joseph, who was paraded alongside other suspects at the state police headquarters in Akure, recounted the events leading up to the tragic encounter. According to Joseph, he had earlier delivered bush meat to his girlfriend before heading out again in the night for another hunting session. He said that after consuming some bottles of beer, he ran out of cartridges and decided to return to his girlfriend’s house to spend the night.

Upon arriving at the house, Joseph noticed the door was locked. Curious, he decided to check through the window. To his shock, he discovered his girlfriend in bed with another man, whom he recognized as a fellow hunter and close friend. Overcome with rage, Joseph fired the gun he was carrying, aiming through the window.

“I went out hunting after I had taken some bottles of beer, but I ran out of cartridges. I wanted to return to my girlfriend’s house to sleep there. When I got there, I saw the door locked. I opened the window and saw a co-hunter sleeping with my girlfriend. Then I shot the gun in my hand,” Joseph explained.

The Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abayomi Oladipo, provided further details during the parade of the suspect. He confirmed that the incident was reported as a case of attempted murder.

According to the police, the victim, who is a friend of both Joseph and the woman, had gone to visit her on the night of the incident. Unbeknownst to him, Joseph, who is also romantically involved with the woman, had planned to visit her as well.

Mr. Oladipo stated, “On the 23rd of August, 2024, at about 11:00 PM, a case of attempted murder was reported to the police. The victim went to his friend, who is a divorcee, in her house.

Joseph Ajegba, a hunter aged 38 years, who is also having an affair with the woman, went to visit her on the same day in possession of an unlicensed single-barrel gun.
