He said he was a “mummy’s boy”, adding that his late mum was the closest person to him.

The former England international stated this in a podcast interview with Steven Bartlett.

“I was a mummy’s boy. I lost the closet person to me, everything to me. The emotional support. I wanted to say something more and I couldn’t,” he said with an emotional tone.

Lampard said his dad on the other hand, was a “tough man.”

He said his dad was the biggest influencer on his football career.

“My dad was a tough man. He pushed me very hard on the football front and he got probably a bit too much.

“The fear of failing was a huge driving force but made me what I was and gave me the career I got in the end,” Lampard said.
