Babangida also recounts the events surrounding the coup attempt led by Lieutenant-Colonel Bukar Dimka. He describes how he disarmed Dimka and the mutineers who had seized the Radio House. Babangida was joined by several military officers and, with support from Sani Sami, the commander of the Brigade of Guards, they engaged the mutineers in a gunfight. During the confrontation, Dimka’s aide-de-camp, 2nd Lt Garba, was killed, but Dimka managed to escape, which remains unexplained to this day.
