According to the IDF, Hamas operatives were hiding in the school, from where they were “advancing terror operations against IDF forces and Israeli citizens.”

The IDF emphasized that it “took many steps in order to reduce the chance of harming civilians” before executing the strike with precision munitions.

The military accused Hamas of “systematically violating international law and operating out of civilian shelters, while using the population as a human shield.”

This airstrike occurred amid ongoing tensions and discussions for a ceasefire, following a series of similar attacks targeting Hamas command centers in schools in Gaza City.

Hamas denied the presence of a command center in the school and called the strike a “heinous massacre” in an official statement.

The Gaza-ruling terror group urged the international community to “take immediate action to halt these atrocities.”

The Al-Taba’een school was being used as a shelter by approximately 4,200 displaced Palestinians. The IDF stated that the school was located adjacent to a mosque in the Daraj Tuffah area, which serves as a shelter for Gaza residents.
