“I am a friend to Rotimi Amaechi”, the former All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship hopeful said on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Wednesday.

Peterside claimed that he does not support Nyesom Wike, adding that he also does not share a political preference with Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

He did, however, claim to be ready to advise the current governor on how to proceed the state.

“When Nyesom Wike was governor, recall that I was doing open letters to him consistently, giving him my advice. That’s what I did for some time. If Governor Fubara seeks my advice, of course, I am willing to give that, like many governors”, he said.

One of the politically charged states in Nigeria, Rivers, could be attributed to the oil-rich state’s large-run fat purse and chunk votes.

The diverse and intrigue-filled state, which is dominated by pugilists in the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is made up of many different political camps, as a coat of many colors.

Nyesom Wike (L) and Rotimi Amaechi (R) are pictured together in a photo collage.
Wike, a PDP powerbroker and state governor for two terms from May 2015 to May 2023, serves as one of the camps’ leaders. Amaechi, a former APC presidential candidate and former transportation minister, who served as governor of the state from May 2007 to May 2015, is another political gladiator.
