Shaibu said that throughout his eight-year tenure he received only one official car, a Land Cruiser, during the third year of the first term. He said in his second term as deputy governor, Obaseki did not give him any official vehicle, despite it being a standard entitlement for someone in his position.

In Shaibu’s words: “I was deputy governor of Edo for 8 years. Only one Land Cruiser official car did the governor purchase for me and it was in the 3rd year of the first term. In the second term I never had any official vehicle by the government.
That is officially entitlement but I never made a story out of it. I was managing myself all through because that was not my headache, my headache was how to add value.
