Imo State Police Commissioner (CP) Aboki Danjuma has assured government workers and residents of adequate security and urged them to continue their lawful activities without fearing harm or molestation.

Danjuma’s assurance came after the reported threat issued by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to shut down the state workers’ Secretariat in Owerri for one month, starting yesterday.

During his visit to the Secretariat yesterday, the CP said security personnel have been deployed to guarantee the security of workers and the facility. He said: “We have had similar threats from the proscribed IPOB in the state, but this time, we have adopted a new strategy to ensure that this particular one does not affect Imo people.

“We are here to assure Imo workers that they are adequately protected. Our men are massively on the ground to ensure that nothing of security concern happens here.”

Responding, the Head of Service, Raymond Ucheoma, appreciated the CP’s proactive response to the threat. He said the visit and deployment of security personnel at the Secretariat gave personnel the confidence to come to work and perform their duties to the state.

He described the threat, which he said was targeted at the state’s workforce, as unfortunate.
