The victims, identified as local farmers, were ambushed and killed while harvesting tomatoes on their farmland.

However, two other family members who survived the attack sustained severe injuries and were immediately rushed to Jos for emergency medical treatment.
The attack occurred at a highly sensitive moment — just as a state-appointed fact-finding committee was meeting with Bassa community members and security agencies at the local government secretariat in an effort to investigate and address the lingering crisis in Plateau State, which has persisted since 2001.
