According to the kingpin, the sophisticated arms, including AK-47 rifles and RPGs, come from both local and international sources. He claimed that certain influential figures, including politicians and business tycoons, are behind the sponsorship of these criminal activities.
“Some of these people are in government; some are businessmen. They use us to create fear so they can control people. They tell us when to attack and where to strike,” he stated.
The suspect further disclosed that ransom money collected from kidnappings is shared among the bandits and their sponsors. “We don’t keep all the money. We send a large part to those who gave us the weapons and protection,” he confessed.
Security agencies have since intensified efforts to investigate these claims and apprehend the alleged sponsors. A senior security official, speaking anonymously, confirmed the ongoing probe. “We are following leads provided by the suspect. We believe this will expose the hidden hands behind insecurity in the country,” the officer stated.
