Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! In a statement on Thursday issued by Abel Habila Adamu (Dan’Amar Chawai), the President of the Chawai Development Association said the land was bleeding and the blood of innocent people crying profusely for justice.
The group condemned the inhumane experiences the Chawai people were allegedly subjected to, saying, “We are hereby painfully addressing the general public, local and international Community, the new and conventional media over a resurgence of attacks on our people by the unknown gunmen.”
“More worrisome is that all efforts being made by the current CDA leadership on all reported cases of retaliations and counter-attacks going on in our land in recent times have proven abortive,” the statement further lamented.
The group noted that the resurgence of the attacks at Kigam Community and Angwan Magaji, all in Kamaru Ward, led to the death
of six persons and injury to four others by the unknown gunmen.
The association called on governments at all levels to approach security with utmost sincerity and honesty. It charged security heads to be more proactive in dealing with security matters concerning the Chawai land.
It also appealed to indigenes not to take laws into their own hands but to continue to work to ensure they coexist peacefully with others despite all odds.
“As leaders of conscience, we shall sustain community engagement and inter-agency collaboration with all relevant stakeholders and those critically needed to work towards building a sustainable peace in our Chiefdom are met and ensure the required result is achieved,” the statement assured.
