The Acting Chairman of Gwale Local Government Area, LGA, of Kano State, Bashir Kasim Dandago, has distanced the council from a court order restraining Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from using funds in the joint State/Local Government Account for the construction of two bridges in the state.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Dandago, who briefed journalists alongside six out of 10 councillors of the LGA, rejected a court order obtained by the chairmen of the 44 local government areas of the state.
He noted that the elected council chairman, Khalid Ishaq Diso, who signed the lawsuit upon which the court order was granted, is still being suspended by the State House of Assembly and a law court.
“The chairman cannot now under suspension be part of any resolution of the 44 local government chairmen because he lacks that powers, and as such his actions violate the constitutional provisions,” he said.
Dandago expressed support for the governor’s wish to use the joint account to execute the project.
“We emphasize our full support to the execution of two under bridge bypass projects, and we stand by it,” he declared.
He noted that the suspended chairman was accused of financial misappropriation, leading to his suspension by the House of Assembly.
Dandago also pointed out that a subsisting court order is restraining Diso from parading himself as the Chairman of Gwale LGA.
He accused the suspended chairman of impersonation “because for now he is under suspension and have no power whatsoever to speak on behalf of the council”.
