Eight out of eleven elected councillors of the Nassarawa Local Government area of Kano State have unanimously suspended the council chairman, Lawal Shuaibu Aranfoso, for allegedly leasing the revenue section of the area to his friend.

Speaking on behalf of the other lawmakers, a councillor, who chose not to disclose his name, explained that since his election, the chairman had abandoned the local government and practically relocated to Abuja.
He stated that during their investigation, they discovered that several revenue generation points of the council had been leased out to the chairman’s cronies without the knowledge of other council members.
He added that a close examination of the local government, which was once a hub of revenue generation activities and social services, now reveals a sorry state of affairs.
“We have constituted a high-powered investigation panel that will help us unravel how much revenue has gone missing due to his friends who were illegally given the collection rights,” he said.
“We are also taking all necessary measures to support the people of Nassarawa, who are in dire need of assistance from us,” he explained.
All attempts to speak with the suspended chairman, including sending him a text message, proved abortive as he declined to respond to any inquiries.
