Smart, along with 30-year-old Keleke Michael, was apprehended by operatives from the Lagos State Police Command on Friday, January 24, 2025. The police confirmed that the suspects were intercepted while attempting to flee Lagos State.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their involvement in the kidnapping, detailing how they were contracted to abduct the former AIG’s wife and hold her for ransom.

On the day of the kidnapping, the gang ambushed her at the entrance of her residence in Arepo, Ogun State, before dragging her out of her Lexus SUV and taking her through a swampy area to a concealed location.

Smart explained that the gang originally demanded N40 million as ransom for Mrs. Odumosu’s release. However, after negotiations, the amount was reduced to N20 million, which was paid by the family.

The suspects then shared the ransom among themselves, with Smart receiving a portion of N4.25 million.

However, the police revealed that they had recovered a sum of N2.25 million from the suspects during their arrest, which was part of the ransom paid.

An interview from the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the details, revealing that two locally fabricated rifles and 11 live cartridges were also recovered from the suspects.
