LGAs in Lagos, Kano, Oyo, Katsina, and Rivers states raked in the highest allocations for the year as the local councils in the five states got 24.83 percent (N500.38 billion) of the total allocation.

In 2022, the eight LGAs in Bayelsa got N24.03 billion, the 11 LGAs in Gombe got N28.97 billion, the 13 in Ebonyi state got N31.73 billion, the 13 LGAs in Nassarawa state secured N31.96 billion, the 16 local councils in Ekiti got N34.86 billion, the 16 LGAs in Kwara state got N37.69 billion, the 14 local councils in Zamfara state secured N38.37 billion, and the 17 LGAs in Abia state got N39.33 billion.
Six local government areas in FCT got N39.52 billion, 16 LGAs in Taraba state got N40.42 billion, 17 local councils in Yobe state got N41.22 billion, 18 LGAs in Cross River state secured N41.69 billion, 18 in Ondo state got N43.03 billion, 17 LGAs in Enugu state got N43.42 billion.
In addition, 18 LGAs in Edo state secured N43.54 billion, 17 local councils in Plateau got N44.33 billion, 20 LGAs in Ogun state got N45.68 billion, 21 LGAs in Adamawa state got N49.23 billion, 21 LGAs in Kogi got N49.30 billion, 21 local councils in Kebbi state got N49.96 billion, 21 in Anambra got N52 billion, 23 LGAs in Sokoto state secured N55.58 billion, 20 local councils in Bauchi got N55.90 billion, and 23 LGAs in Benue state got N57.28 billion.
In 2022, the federal government also allocated N57.68 billion to the 25 local government areas in Delta state, N58.25 billion to the 27 local councils in Imo state, N58.42 billion to the 30 LGAs in Osun state, N60.68 billion to the 25 LGAs in Niger state, N61.63 billion to the 27 local councils in Jigawa, N65.37 billion to the 27 LGAs in Borno, N66.31 billion to the 31 local councils in Akwa Ibom state.
The federal government also disbursed the sum of N67.69 billion to the 23 LGAs in Kaduna, N80.39 billion to the 23 LGAs in Rivers state, N81.81 billion to the 34 local councils in Katsina, N84.51 billion to the 33 LGAs in Oyo, N107.29 billion to the 44 LGAs in Kano state, and N146.39 billion to the 20 local councils in Lagos state.
It is worth noting that the 774 local government areas in Nigeria are allocated revenues from the federation account monthly.
Revenue from oil, relevant taxes, the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) trade facilitation activities, Company Income Tax (CIT), sale of national assets, and surplus and dividends from state-owned enterprises are aggregated in the federation account for sharing amongst the three tiers of government.
According to the current sharing formula, the federal government gets 48.5 percent, state governments 26.72 percent, and LGAs 20.6 percent from the federation account.
