Born on August 16, 1980, Mojisola Meranda hails from the prominent Akapo family in Lagos.
2. Family Background
Meranda is the daughter of the late Chief Taoreed Lawal-Akapo, the Ojora of Lagos from 1977 to 1993, and Princess M.A Lawal-Akapo. Her family is part of the royal lineage of several notable Lagos royal houses, including Ojora, Aromire, Onitana, Oloto, and Oniru. Her brother, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, currently serves as the Oniru of Iru Land.
3. Education
Meranda attended St. Charles Nursery and Primary School, then Randle Primary School in Surulere from 1986 to 1992. She continued her secondary education at Lagos Anglican Girls Grammar School (1992–1996) and Ansar-ud-Deen Secondary School (1996–1998). She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Administration from Lagos State University in 2013.
4. Strong Roots in Lagos
As a member of a distinguished Lagos royal family, Meranda’s connection to the state runs deep. Her family has a long history of involvement in both traditional and political leadership, with her brother being a significant figure in the state’s royal hierarchy.
5. Political Career
At 44 years old, Meranda is one of only four women serving in the Lagos House of Assembly. She was first elected in 2015 after serving in various capacities at the Apapa Local Government. She was re-elected in 2019 and 2023. Meranda’s political interest was sparked when she worked as a personal assistant to Olumuyiwa Gbadegesin, a Senior Special Assistant to Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his tenure as Lagos State governor.
