One of the affected lecturers, Ibezim Echezona, revealed the devastating toll of the situation. “Our members are dying—we have buried 12 so far. The last one passed away this year. This is someone we saw last December, and now she is no more. This is what we are going through due to five to six years of unpaid salaries,” he said.

Chukwuebuka Emmanuel, a blind staff member at the Center for Disabilities and Special Needs Research, shared his struggles since being employed in 2019. “I have worked for years without a single salary. Initially, we were told the issue was with IPPIS, then the Governing Council approved our payments, yet nothing changed,” he explained.
Expressing his distress, he added, “It has been extremely difficult, especially for those of us with disabilities. As a family man, how do I explain to my children when they ask for school fees? I don’t even know if it’s the Federal Government, the Ministry of Education, or the university itself that’s holding our salaries.”
