Speaking to journalists in Ibadan, Oyo State, after leading a delegation of former G5 Governors’ Forum members on a condolence visit to Governor Seyi Makinde over his elder brother’s passing, Wike stressed the need to recognize the achievements of the current administration despite the country’s previous difficulties.

According to report, among those who accompanied him were former Governors Samuel Ortom (Benue) and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), alongside Senators Sandy Onor, Philip Aduda, Olaka Nwogu, Mao Ohuabunwa, and former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chibudom Nwuche. The delegation was received at Governor Makinde’s private residence in Ikolaba.

Wike pointed out that Nigerians often forget past struggles, reminding them that the country faced significant challenges before the Tinubu administration took office. He explained that while the government’s policies might bring temporary difficulties, they were necessary for long-term progress. He urged Nigerians to be patient, as real change takes time.

He acknowledged the short-term hardships caused by economic reforms but assured the public that these measures were intended to create a more prosperous future. He emphasized that development is a gradual process and encouraged Nigerians to trust the administration’s vision.

Wike also reiterated that their visit was to support Governor Makinde in his moment of loss, highlighting the close relationship within the G5 Governors’ Forum. He described Sunday Makinde’s passing as a personal loss to the group, given his strong bond with his younger brother, the governor.
