Richard Akinnola, a lawyer and human rights activist, has spoken about how Lieutenant Colonel Buka Dimka was arrested. Dimka was the army officer who tried to carry out a coup against former Head of State, General Murtala Muhammed in 1976. Despite assassinating General Murtala Mohammed, Dimka and his fellow coup plotters were apprehended and executed
In an interview with Edmund Obilo, Akinnola said Lieutenant Colonel Dimka was a person of “unstable character”. He said Dimka, who was on the run and being hunted by security forces, was eventually arrested in Abakaliki.
