According to The Nation, The opposition Labour Party (LP), led by Barrister Julius Abure, has advised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its 2023 presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to stop blaming President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the ongoing crisis within the PDP. According to the LP, the party’s woes are self-inflicted and are a result of internal leadership conflicts that have left it divided and directionless....CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING.>>
The LP further called on the PDP to refrain from presenting any candidate or participating in the upcoming 2027 presidential election, citing the party’s loss of focus and internal instability. The Labour Party argued that the PDP, once regarded as the largest political party in Africa, has failed to provide strong leadership due to its leadership challenges and lack of cohesion.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! One of the main points raised by the LP is the recent violent clash that occurred at the PDP’s Abuja headquarters during a Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting. This confrontation involved two senior party members, Samuel Anyanwu and Ude-Okoye, both of whom claimed to hold the position of National Secretary, further escalating tensions within the party. This incident, according to the LP, highlights the deep-rooted crisis within the PDP, which has been unable to resolve its internal disputes.
In addition to the leadership crisis, the LP also referred to Atiku Abubakar’s allegations that opposition leaders had been bribed by the federal government to undermine democracy. Atiku claimed that these leaders were each paid ₦50 million to destabilize the political process. The Labour Party has pointed out that such accusations only serve to exacerbate the challenges facing the PDP, making it difficult for the party to maintain credibility and support.
The LP emphasized the urgency of its position as the country approaches the 2027 general elections. The party’s spokesperson noted that the advice to the PDP is aimed at preventing a repeat of the 2023 election scenario, where both the PDP and LP ran separate presidential campaigns, ultimately losing to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The Labour Party believes that had the two opposition parties come together, they could have presented a stronger challenge to the APC in 2023.
Looking ahead to the 2027 election, the LP expressed confidence in its prospects. With over six million votes garnered in the 2023 presidential election, the party is optimistic that it can build on this foundation and secure even more support in the upcoming race. The LP’s Publicity Secretary stated that if the PDP aligns with the LP, the combined strength of both parties could result in a successful challenge to the APC and a shift in Nigeria’s political landscape.
The Labour Party’s message to Nigerians is clear: they should not be swayed by Atiku Abubakar’s continued criticism of President Bola Tinubu. According to the LP, the PDP’s internal issues are the root cause of its struggles, and blaming the president will not resolve the party’s crises. Instead, the LP calls for a focus on rebuilding the opposition and presenting a united front in the coming elections.
He said: Nigerians should not listen to Atiku Abubakar who is blaming President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the ills of PDP.
