In a statement released on Saturday, Olufemi Soneye, NNPCL’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, explained that the current fuel shortages in some areas of Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are due to disruptions in the discharge operations of several vessels.

NNPCL assured that efforts are underway to address these problems. “The NNPC is working around the clock with all stakeholders to resolve the situation and restore normal operations,” Soneye stated.

According to SaharaReporters, oil marketers in Abuja and neighboring states, including Niger, Nasarawa, and Kogi, closed their filling stations on Friday. Similar closures were reported in Lokoja, Kogi State, which led to fuel shortages and long queues at remaining stations in places like AYM Shafa in Dei-Dei and NNPC in Zuba, Niger State.

The situation was also problematic in Lagos and Oyo states, with many filling stations shut and the remaining ones raising fuel prices to N800 per litre or more. Some marketers cited fuel shortages, while others pointed to concerns over upcoming protests.

In Ogun State, the fuel scarcity reached a critical point, with long queues forming at filling stations along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, including in Magboro and Ibafo areas.

This recurring issue with fuel shortages continues to affect motorists and businesses across Nigeria, highlighting the need for a more reliable and sustainable fuel supply system.
