According to a report by NIGERIAN TRIBUNE, Leah approached the court seeking the dissolution of her union with Olalere, alleging that she had suffered relentless emotional and physical abuse throughout their time together.
She informed the court that no formal marriage rites were conducted and that the defendant never paid her bride price, a significant cultural obligation in many Nigerian communities.
According to the court filings, Leah endured persistent maltreatment, including starvation and beatings.

She claimed that her husband routinely ignored his responsibilities as a father and partner, abandoning her and their child without food or financial support. This neglect led to serious malnourishment for both mother and child, leaving them in a visibly unhealthy state.
Beyond the neglect, Leah recounted a pattern of violent behaviour by Olalere. She stated that their relationship was marred by constant physical altercations, with her husband often reacting to her pleas for support with brutal force.

She alleged that during these assaults, he would tear off her clothes and leave her completely naked in public, exposing her to humiliation before neighbours and passers-by.
In her words: “My husband always got angry whenever I complained of his neglect of us, and he would beat me to a pulp. He not only beat me but would tear my clothes to shreds and leave me stark naked in the presence of our neighbours and passersby.
