Police arrest 15 suspected railway vandals in Niger State

The Niger State Police Command has arrested 15 suspects for allegedly vandalizing and transporting a trailer load of railway tracks and slippers in Minna.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Shawulu Danmamman, revealed that the tracks were believed to have been stolen from Katarma village in Kaduna.

He said the suspects were intercepted and arrested by the military component at Sarkin-Pawa, who then handed them over to the Police Division at Sarkin-Pawa.

CP Danmamman while parading the suspects before the press at the command headquarters on Friday, reiterated the commitment of the Niger State Police Command to combating and reducing crime in the state.

Among the suspects paraded were Adekunle Saheed, 44 years old, from Oyo State, and Saifullahi Umar, 30 years old, from Katsina State.

During their interaction with the media, the suspects provided conflicting information regarding their involvement in the crime while Adekunle Saheed claimed ignorance of the content of the trailer, the driver Saifullahi stated that he was leading the trailer to its destination.

The police also paraded suspected armed bandits, recovered an AK-47 rifle in the Pissa District of Borgu Local Government Area, and arrested two notorious thieves, ex-convicts apprehended for criminal trespass and attempted vehicle theft in Minna.
