A series of operations conducted across the Enugu, Abakaliki, and Ebonyi regions have led to the arrest of 20 suspects involved in these unlawful activities.

On August 24, 2024, police units successfully apprehended 14 suspects during a targeted operation at the Abakaliki-Ebonyi boundary in the early hours of the morning.

Additional suspects were arrested at various locations, including 5 in Abumeje, Ogoja, and 1 in the Onuakpu area of Ebonyi.

Charges have already been filed against five of the suspects for economic sabotage and unauthorised taxation, while others remain in custody at the Ebonyi Command pending further legal action.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, emphasised the police force’s of illegal revenue collection and ensuring a secure environment that supports business activities across the nation.

This initiative is a crucial step toward dismantling unlawful roadblocks and promoting the free movement of goods on Nigerian highways.
