Obi emphasized that there is no justification for Kanu’s continued detention, especially since the courts have granted him bail, and urged the government to comply with the court’s decision.

He stressed the importance of the rule of law and appealed to the government to release all individuals in similar situations.

On the other hand, Alex Ogbonnia, the National Public Secretary of Ohanaeze, emphasized that a political solution is crucial and that Kanu’s release would help reduce insecurity in the Southeast.

He highlighted that the Biafra agitation is a fundamental issue that goes beyond Kanu, pointing to the marginalization of South easterners as a significant factor.

Ogbonnia called for the Nigerian government to address the underlying causes of the agitation and suggested that Kanu’s release would lead to widespread celebration and end the Monday sit-at-home protests.
